PAST NEWS AND NOTES

April 15, 2008: Players, for Thursday, now that we know the schedule, just be here 30 min before your game time for the mini event, you do not need to be here at 9am sharp if your first game is later (ie) if first mini game is 1230pm, be here for 1200.

April 14, 2008: Seminar Times, CLICK HERE or go to schedule.

April 14, 2008: SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY SEMINAR - PLEASE EMAIL ME AT WOMENSPROSPECT@ROGERS.COM TO SIGN UP. It is free as all our seminars are, but I would like to have a sign up for this one. Email me at womensprospect@rogers.com, with your name and a note saying you would like to hear the seminar. Check your schedule to see if it works for you. If you hte player cannot attend, please encourage your parents to attend. EMAIL ME ASAP.

April 14, 2008: Questions I am getting: Do I need to be there at 9:00am Thurs if my mini tourney game starts later? Answer - NO, be there 30 min before start time. I only use the 9:00am start time initially, just be here Thurs before your game (ie) If your game starts at 12:30, be here for 11:45.

April 13, 2008:Hello all. The schedule includes the mini tournament. It is in excel view. I don't know why there is any confusion, it is layed out nicely for you in excel view, the 17th is the mini event, the 18th, 19th are the round robin days, and the 20th is the playoff day. Click links below under Camp schedule/rosters/standing

April 13, 2008: Rosters are now posted! No changes! I did my best to make all requests come true, at times it was virtually impossible, but there were many good compromises. If you are not with a friend, do not worry, just make new friends for a weekend, that is what it is all about :) As I say to EVERY parent every time I am in an arena...never worry, it will always work out :)

April 11, 2008: Rosters will be posted Sunday, a day earlier, look for them after 10:00pm on Sunday.

April 10, 2008: Coaches: Gerry Harrigan, Jim Rayburn, Bruce Donaldson, Jill Clark, Stacey Colarossi, Brenley Jorgensen, Janine Davies, Mandy Cole, Katelyn Aitcheson, Nadine Muzerall, Dan Rose, Natalie Hughes, Larry Bumstead, Stephanie Lockert, Jen Maclean, Bradi Cochrane.

April 10, 2008: Hi everyone..ok..let the scolding begin....people are emailing me asking where I posted the rosters, the general phrase being, "I can't see them anywhere, where are they? ". Well, as you can see...I have not posted them. I said rosters will be posted a few days after the schedule. I did not say they would be posted right away. Be patient :)

April 9, 2008: Note, the schedule is posted. There may be a slight change to it here or there, and I am double triple checking it daily. Also, the guest speaker times may be altered a bit as well, and I will have Kim Mccullough's times posted soon.

April 9, 2008: Reminders: Bring water bottle, extra skate blades. Check for schedule tonight. Do not be late to games.

April 9, 2008: Mini Tournament: There will be 2 blocks of 12 teams. The first black will check in, then the second block, more to come shortly. The mini tournament is a practice day, just to get your feet wet, handle the puck, get in some ice time, and to register. Please make sure you check schedule for times, and check in 30 minutes before your game time. If you are the first game time in the morning, please check in earlier. The mini tournamenet will begin at 9:30AM SHARP on rink Red and Blue, and 9:45 AM on Rink Gold and Green.

April 9, 2008: Schedule will be posted at Midnight tonight. Please note: Goalies - the goalie seminar is at 4:15 on Thursday til 5:15 roughly. It is for parents and goalies and any college coaches who want to come and listen. I would like all goalies to email me to confirm they have read this message please. I will send all goalies an email today.

Seminar times will be posted tonight as well. Please note that the S.A.T Seminar speaker will be there on Thursday to collect any information from you, and she will present on Friday. The only seminar on Thursday will be the goalies. We will be done early each day to avoid any night time conflicts.

April 8, 2008: I will have a schedule ready for tonight hopefully by Midnight. Now, when I post the schedule, there will be no rosters. I am trying my best to make sure there are no conflicts for you, so please email me if you have not already. Many of you have, and that is good. Now, when I do post the rosters, i will not honor any changes to teh rosters when it comes to requests. I think I have been able to honor 99% of them. The only changes will be if there is a conflict, and then I will need to do a lot of juggling, so be a bit patient and do NOT EMAIL unless it is a must. I think I need to repeat myself there.....do NOT EMAIL unless it is a must.........I was thinking about saying it a third time but it may lose a bit of its effectiveness : ) Talk to you in a bit......

April 7, 2008: I think I am almost done the schedule, it is really a web of things, and I am sure that there will be errors and things that need to be corrected, so everyone, sit tight, at this time of year I turn into a wild man, don't be nervous to email me, and keep me posted on the issues you have. I will be done the schedule on Wed at midnight and posting it, but, rosters not for a few days after. Then, I have to put the guest speaker schedule together and a few other things.................................................just a few.....................other things :).

April 6, 2008: I will have schedule soon. Please do NOT email me asking for schedule, there are a million things to consider and it will be out soon. All you need to know right now is be ready for Thursday. Again, do NOT email asking for schedule!!

March 31, 2008: Dr. Richard Ennis will be scheduled to speak on Saturday for 2 sessions, one at 10:00am and the other at 12:20pm. I am not sure if all will be able to make it as I am trying to coordinate schedule still, but hopefully as many as possible are able to attend. He will be discussing goal setting.

March 25, 2008: Dr. Katherine Ackland's Bio click here. and Chris Salani's Bio click here

March 22, 2008: I am working on creating the schedule this week. It is a really tedious task to match up requests to play with as well as schedule around conflicts. Please email me your situations, as I plan on handling all issues. Thursday and Friday we will be done early, Saturday we will have very strategic scheduling, and Sunday is the playoff day. Again, email me your situations if you have not already (womensprospect@rogers.com).

March 21, 2008: We have another amazing guest speaker for our event. Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Katherine Ackland who is part of Healthcoach.com, will be coming to discuss the following topics to parents and players: ***How to Improve your health to maximize athletic performance & endurance. This seminar will offer resources of how to minimize & prevent injury, perform well throughout your menstrual cycle, and how to maintain good grades. This is an outstanding resource, please take advantage of it best you can. I will post seminar schedules soon.

March 17, 2008: I will have the psychology seminar sign up shortly. I am slowly putting rosters and schedules together, but that wont be out for a while. Look for the next sign up in April (sports performance and psychology).

March 15, 2008: FITNESS TESTING SIGN UP - CLICK HERE. This website will give all girls more information about the fitness testing.  It has pages that explain the tests, how to sign-up and how you will get your results. Please note that due to time limits, we will only be able to do roughly 100 players through the fitness testing but there are opportunites for more, the site will explain.

March 12, 2008: Another guest speaker confirmed, Amey Doyle Assistant coach of the Canadian National Champs McGill University. GUEST SPEAKERS

March 8, 2008: Special Scheduling: Please email me anything I should know about so that when I make the schedule, I am prepared in advance ie) travel, possible conflict, friendly schedule, etc.

March 8, 2008:Please note, I am planning on collecting transcripts for players from high school. I will keep you posted on how that will happen if in fact it does, keep an eye here. Obviously that information is kept confidential and used only to provide colleges with information they need. I will keep you posted in a few days on that.

March 8, 2008:Hi players and parents. Just a reminder, sign up for Fitness Testing and more will be posted here in a few days, keep an eye. Thursday mini event schedule will be posted soon, stay tuned for that, it is also registration day, mandatory. Please make sure you email me your travel schedules, still many who have not done that. Also, reminder that you will play 2 games Fri and 2 games Sat. Sunday is the playoff day where "x" number of teams qualify. The games on Sunday are shorter simply because we would be playing a few more days if we didn't do that. Please bring water bottles, extra skate blades, and other important information.

March 2, 2008:Second request - if you are flying via air, PLEASE email me your flight schedule asap to womensprospect @ rogers . com - thanks!

Feb 29, 2008: Please make sure you reply with travel information as soon as possible. I would like to have that in my hands before I make up the schedule. Also, be ready for Fitness Testing and Sport Psychology Seminar sign up, to begin in roughly 2 weeks here online.

Feb 27, 2008: Please make sure you have the proper travel documents - Passport if needed and other for either driving across the border or flying. Also, players, make sure you bring your own water bottle and EXTRA SKATE BLADES . Skate blades are the things that break the most often and are the hardest to replace at the event, so BRING EXTRA PLEASE.

Feb 22, 2008: THIS IS FOR PEOPLE TRAVELLING BY AIR ONLY - Please email me right away when you get your flights booked. I will need to know your arrival time, and departure time, and what airport you are flying into, whether it be Pearson International (Toronto), or Buffalo Niagara Falls International, or Detroit for that matter. Please email me at womensprospect@rogers.com when you find out.

Feb 14, 2008: More confirmed guest speakers including Team Canada U22 Head Coach Dan Church, Yale University Assistant Coach Harry Rosenholtz, Elmira College Assistant Coach Shannon Clement, with more to come!

FITNESS TESTING INFORMATION

2nd Annual Women’s Prospects Tournament
Fitness Testing Combine by Kim McCullough www.youngathlete.ca

(SIGN UP WILL BEGIN MARCH 15)

How do you measure up?

Have you ever wanted to know how you compare to other elite female hockey players? Have you ever wanted to know (and try) the fitness tests they use at the National Team, NCAA and CIS level? Here is your chance to find out!

At the 2nd Annual Prospects Tournament Fitness Testing Combine, we will be testing players using the same tests used at the most elite levels of female hockey.

But this isn’t just testing. Yes, we will test your agility, conditioning, strength and power But we will also:

  1. Give you a detailed personal report of your test scores
  2. Show you how you compare to other participants (past & present)
  3. Give you tips on how to improve

For those of you that participated last year, here is your chance to see how you have improved over the course of the year.  For those of you that are new to fitness testing, here is your chance to familiarize yourself with the tests that you will have to perform as you advance through the levels of hockey - without having to be stressed out about the results!

The results are not shared with anyone but yourself - your specific numbers and rankings are yours and yours alone. That is unless you completely blow us away with your amazing scores, in which case, I will brag about your results on your behalf.

Want to see how you measure up? Make sure to reserve your spot!

We can only test 100 players over the course of the weekend - and there are 400 of you in the tournament!  Keep your eyes peeled for the announcement that registration is starting.

The first 30 players to register will also have the chance to attend a very special player development seminar (separate from the main seminars) that I will be offering during the tournament.  There are only 30 spots available - you don’t want to miss out on the information!

New Features this Year...

  1. Testing earlier in tournament:  To ensure that you are able to get a true reading of your fitness abilities - without being tired and sore from playing all weekend - we are moving the testing sessions to Thursday and Friday.
  2. Complete Player Development Seminars:  This is your opportunity to learn more about what it takes to compete at the highest levels of female hockey in terms of strength, conditioning and athleticism.  I have worked closely with elite female players and coaches from the Under-18 Provincial to National Team Level.  I have learned the secrets of how to make it to and succeed at the highest levels of female hockey.  And I am going to share them all with you!  I will be presenting four one-hour training seminars over the course of the weekend, in which I will discuss the basic fundamentals for on-ice success, as well as the specific skills you must develop to compete with the best female players in the world. I promise not to hold any information back and will gladly answer any question that you can possibly think of on the topic of complete player development.  Keep your eyes peeled for more details as we get closer to tournament time
